Cupping is a magnificent ancient therapy used to benefit an individual in the same way massage is used, however the benefits of cupping surpass massage in some respects as it tends to be far less painful compared to deep tissue, much more time effective as the therapist can work multiple areas of the body at once and can be used to focus on specific diseases in a similar way to acupuncture and acupressure, using the meridian points in your body.
Glass cups are used combined with a flame to create suction, the cup is placed on the body, pulling the fascia away from the muscle and drawing blood to the area. Cupping is relatively pain-free, and incredibly relaxing, it does leave painless bruise like marks from the suction which tend to clear up in 3-5 days.
Massage is a wonderful aid to women all the way through the perinatal process. It can help reduce the impact of the physiological effects of the fight or flight state, which often we experience from the stresses of modern life, to encourage a healthy reproductive system and therefore aiding conception.
Aside from the obvious physical benefits of having regular massage throughout pregnancy, Pregnancy Massage reduces the levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) passed on to you & your baby, it aids better sleep, reduces swelling & headaches, releases good endorphins to help your mood and provides women with nurturing, emotional continued support during what can be a stressful and alienating time.
Once the baby has arrived the benefits of Post Natal massage, if you can find the time, are countless. During labour both your body and mind may have been through trauma, huge amounts of cortisol and adrenaline have been released into your system. Massage can not only help bring your post labour body back into comfort, but also help you manage the effects of the emotional roller-coaster you've been on. Getting you feeling more like you, and more able to manage with the demands your new bundle of life has brought.
Some level of post natal depression is exceptionally normal, but largely unspoken. Having continued therapy with the same therapist throughout your maternity, and on, provides support for your body and mind, making everything a little easier.
Reiki is still a relatively unknown and misunderstood form of therapy in the Western world. At it's core Reiki is a healing technique used to aid relaxation and reduce the effects of stress. In modern narrative it is often difficult for people to understand how Reiki works, as unlike massage therapy it is not supported by science, however millions of people worldwide have reaped the benefits this treatment has to offer. Ella recommends Reiki, or a Massage and Reiki combination, for any issues which would be deemed psychological, but also those suffering for the physiological effects of a psychological problem.
